There is an article written by Professor Kathryn Stanchi of Temple University School of Law called 'Playing with Fire: the Science of Confronting Adverse Material in Legal Advocacy'. It can be found in LSN Litigation and Procedure v.8, no. 67, 2007 and to be published in Rutgers Law Review, v.60, Winter 2008.

This facinataing article deals with the use of social science studies in discussing disclosure of negative information in legal advocacy. Professor Stanchi takes up the subject of negative information in terms of persuasion, negative information as a means of defusing the negative and she mentions the positive effect on the lawyer's credibility.
