SCALIA GOES ON '60 MINUTES'

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia will be featured on the CBS News show "60 Minutes" April 27 in connection with the publication the next day of the new book he has co-authored, called 'Making Your Case: The Art of Persuading Judges' Correspondent Lesley Stahl has spent considerable time interviewing Scalia about his life and career - not just the book.

NITA'S NEWEST CASE FILE

NITA's newest case file, State v. Tyler , by John J. Francis of the Washburn University School of Law, is designed to teach pretrial skills by following a criminal case from intake interviews, through the filing of charges and probable-cause review, continuing through discovery and motion practice, and wrapping up with plea negotiations. The underlying facts are that two juveniles have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a recreational vehicle and causing damage. Each exercise builds upon the previous one, so that students-who are assigned the role of prosecuting attorney or defense attorney-can undertake the exercises in logical order and continue their roles over the duration of the course. A prosecutor's file and a defense counsel file are available, as well as a teacher's manual that outlines specific problems to further challenge your students

REEL JUSTICE : INTERACTIVE MOVIE

Reel Justice is an interactive movie on CD-ROM - the use of media to teach criminal justice. The 'incident' concerns domestic violence and the participant takes the role of police officer and makes choices for him. Some of the issues explored are criminal responsibility, civil vs. criminal law, the courts, etc. It was published by McGraw-Hill, 2005.

LIBRARIANS AS JURORS

In the publication American Libraries, January/February 2008 is an article 'Librarians in the Jury Box' by Nancy Kalikow Maxwell. The author quotes a number of sources which add up to the idea that librarians make good jurors: librarians are interested in facts, they are reasonable, organized, careful, intelligent. But the author warns against choosing catalogers for jury duty.
