Attleboro judge will sit on state's superior court

 ATTLEBORO — A district court judge who frequently sits on the bench in Attleboro District Court was confirmed today by the Governor’s Council to be a superior court judge.

 

 Judge Angel Kelley Brown was approved by the council by a 6-2 vote, according to a spokeswoman for the council.

 

 Kelley Brown has been an associate district court judge for three years assigned to the Brockton District Court. But she has spent much of her time on the bench in Attleboro District Court. Associate district court judges serve on the bench in different district courts in various regions of the state.

 

 She was nominated last month by Gov. Deval Patrick and fills a vacancy on the superior court created by the retirement of Judge Barbara Dortch-Okara.

 

 Prior to becoming a judge in 2009, Brown practiced law for 16 years. She spent four years as a legal services attorney at The Legal Aid Society in Brooklyn, N.Y. and eight years as an assistant chief counsel and trial attorney for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

 

 Kelley Brown moved to Boston in 2005 and worked for two years as a clinical instructor at Harvard Law School and two years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the major crimes unit.

 

 She is a graduate of Colgate University and Georgetown University Law Center. She also received a master of laws degree in trial advocacy at Temple University.
