Two Nominations to the Superior Court Bench Announced

Gov. Deval Patrick, D-Mass., has issued the following news release:

 

Governor Deval Patrick today announced two nominations to the Superior Court: Angel Kelley Brown, Associate

Justice of the Brockton District Court; and Kenneth V. Desmond, Jr., Associate Justice of the Boston Municipal Court.

"I am pleased to nominate these distinguished jurists," said Governor Patrick. "They will bring valuable legal

expertise and judicial experience to the Superior Court bench. I thank them for commitment to public service and their

willingness to serve the Commonwealth in this challenging new role."

 

Judge Angel Kelley Brown serves as an Associate Justice of the Brockton District Court. Prior to joining the bench

in 2009, she practiced law for 16 years. She spent four years as a legal services attorney at The Legal Aid Society in

Brooklyn, New York and eight years as an assistant chief counsel and trial attorney for The Port Authority of New York

and New Jersey. Judge Kelley Brown moved to Boston in 2005 and worked for two years as a clinical instructor at

Harvard Law School and two years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Major Crimes Unit.

Judge Kelley Brown is a graduate of Colgate University (B.A., 1989), Georgetown University

Law Center (J.D., 1992) and Temple University (L.L.M. in  Trial Advocacy, 2003).  If confirmed, she will fill the

 

vacancy on the Superior Court created by the retirement of the Honorable Barbara Dortch-Okara.

 

Judge Kenneth V. Desmond, Jr. has served as an Associate Justice of the Boston Municipal Court since 2005 and as

the Presiding Judge of the Dorchester Drug Court since 2007. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Desmond

worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County for seven years and as Deputy Chief Legal Counsel in the

Middlesex County Sheriff's Department for eight years. He graduated from Tufts University (B.A., 1985) and Boston

College Law School (J.D., 1990). If confirmed, he will fill the vacancy on the Superior Court created by the retirement

of the Honorable Elizabeth Bowen Donovan.
