NITA'S NEWEST CASE FILE

NITA's newest case file, State v. Tyler , by John J. Francis of the Washburn University School of Law, is designed to teach pretrial skills by following a criminal case from intake interviews, through the filing of charges and probable-cause review, continuing through discovery and motion practice, and wrapping up with plea negotiations. The underlying facts are that two juveniles have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a recreational vehicle and causing damage. Each exercise builds upon the previous one, so that students-who are assigned the role of prosecuting attorney or defense attorney-can undertake the exercises in logical order and continue their roles over the duration of the course. A prosecutor's file and a defense counsel file are available, as well as a teacher's manual that outlines specific problems to further challenge your students
